About us
Hello!
We began our beekeeping journey in 2016 having felt inspired to help reverse the recent decline of bees throughout the world: bees and other pollinating insects are vital for the environment and of course pollination of our crops.
Before getting our first hives, we attended evening sessions at our local beekeepers club here in Solihull, followed by the beginners course run during the off-season (winter).
We started with just a single hive generously donated by a fellow beekeeper to allow us to learn the basics of how to care for a colony of bees, learning a great deal along the way. One hive swiftly became two, which became three, and before we knew it we had more hives in our garden in Solihull than we knew what to do with! We then moved some to the orchard in the National Trust property, Packwood House in Lapworth and have not looked back. By having hives across two sites we're able to experience just how a variety of different flowers allow our bees to produce the best tasting honey in Solihull.
Honey is typically harvested in July (a very sticky process!) and we always leave enough for the bees to see them through winter. Honey keeps indefinitely so can be purchased all year round (stock levels dependent of course).
Anyone thinking of keeping bees should first contact their local association and go to awareness sessions they might hold and learn how to handle and look after bees. Here in the UK we have the British Beekeepers Association which has a wealth of current information for the novice and experienced beekeepers.
